There was a very funny debate on PM (BBC radio 4) this evening, between Journalist David Aaronovitch and Abdel Bari Atwan, editor-in chief of the London-based newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi.

Aaronovitch managed to state that the American government did not lie about weapons of mass destruction.  He then carried on telling Bari Atwan that :

"Your governments are so authoritarian, your press so government controlled that as a matter of routine, you don’t actually believe what anybody in office says".

To which the editor of Al-Quds Al-Arabi answered :

"I’m not leaving under an authoritarian government. My government is the British government. I’ve been leaving in this country for 35 years, so I’m entitled to scrutinize all these stories."
